Bold Shoulder

The other day, while shopping for school supplies I got a tad sidetracked and somehow ended up stumbling into one of my favourite stores, Zara. The intention was to buy workwear, which I did, as well as a few other things (I sometimes find it difficult to exercise restraint). Among those things was this Balmain-esque stripe-y sweater, which I am quite happy with. It is a great cozy winter basic, but has a unique edge (note the detailing on the shoulder). Naturally I did what any girl would do (well, certain girls anyway). I hopped in a chair and took some photos! Let me know what you think.

Currently Coveting: Chanel Spring 2010

It appears that Karl Lagerfeld has done it again, as his offerings for Chanel Spring 2010 are absolutely fantastic! The show itself was young and hip, presented in a "country style" setting, with surprise guest models and a performance by Lily Allen. Despite all of the theatrics (which would have been grand to see in person no doubt), it was ultimately the clothes that did the talking.

Karl remained true to Chanel roots, showing a classic chic look in a fairly neutral colour palette comprising of beautiful fabrics. Although he did manage to add a youthful kick, which worked surprisingly well (was the Chanel skirt suit always that short??) While I find myself leaning towards a more classic ladylike look at late (see first image - the joy!), I couldn't help to be pleased to see that there were a few rock and roll offerings to be found. I bet you won't find these skinnies at your local grunge pub!

Paris, Je T'aime

I have officially booked a hair appointment, as I was in dire need for a radical change. Would you call me crazy if I did this? Well, brace yourselves! February 13th is the date. I expect to look like a chic Parisian when this is settled...I hope. Until next time.

Working Girl

Trench Coat - Jacob, Dress (worn as shirt) - Le Chateau
Jeans - Zara, Belt - H&M, Hat, Urban Outfitters

Today I asked the question that nearly all fashionistas will inevitably be forced to ask at one point in their lives. "How do I dress for an office environment while maintaining my unique personal style?" Turns out all it takes is a little creativity! Fortunately, my office is fairly casual so I was able to break a couple rules (jeans at work for example), however you working girls can still take inspiration from my ideas and make them your own. Here's the 5 second summary: start with a dark pant, or another classic piece as a base, add a fun piece with a more conservative cut to add a bit of personality (here I wore a printed dress as a shirt), keep it covered up but well fitted. And lastly, a trench coat as a topper is always a great investment piece that flatters many body types.

You will also note that I got a little carried away with the tripod and attempted a jumping photo. These definitely only work in preteen movies! Well, I tried. Until next time, Nikki signing out.

Changes

Jeans - Zara, Belt - Vintage, Shirt - Urban
Outfitters, Jacket - Zara, Scarf - Vintage

As Carrie Bradshaw once wisely said, "sometimes a girl just needs a change". Taking cue from this notion, I've recently decided to add changes to my lifestyle, my wardrobe, and of course, my blog. Naturally this change won't happen in a day, but phase one commences today, with a new photo style (thanks to my parents for buying me a great tripod!) Now I just have to practice my modelling! I'm also debating a new hair-do. I'm thinking an edgy jet black chin length bob with blunt bangs (think Agyness Deyn circa now). Here's to positive changes in all of us (what better time to do this than the New Year). What are your new resolutions? Let me know!

Would You Wear This?

Well, I have officially commenced my second semester of fashion school (yay!) Currently I'm experiencing a mixture of bitter sweet feelings. Pro - I get to make my own designs this semester. Con - I have quite possibly the most boring textbook one might encounter. As I was reading (falling asleep on my desk) I did happen to come across a little biography on Charles Frederick Worth, who for those of you who are not fashion historians, is commonly known as the grandfather of haute couture. While I have heard his name tossed around, I have never actually looked into his work. I must say that I am quite impressed. Why do we never see these intricacies today? (Well...most of the time anyway). Worth was known for his ability to flatter a client's character and complexion, as well as inject history into his gowns in an edgy fashion. Not too shabby if you ask me! But ultimately the question remains. Would you wear this? I would in a New York minute!

On a side note: got some great vintage finds today, I'll try to photograph them soon!
