This Friday Night

Shirt - American Eagle, Skirt - Winners
Well, it's Friday night and I'm on my way out to a graduation party of sorts. In light of the occassion I threw on my brand new skirt (which I think I'm going to get a lot of wear out of!) a summer top, and a long neutral cardi. Tomorrow I'll be spending the day at the beach which I will surely report on. Other than that my goal for the weekend is to watch Transformers (I feel very out of the loop...especially with number two in theatres!) and catch up on my reading. Hope you all have lovely weekends! :)

P.S. Currently obsessed with "Time After Time" by Cindy Lauper...it's timeless!

To Jump(suit) or Not

Over the past few seasons jumpsuits have been all the rage in fashion, appearing in various editorials, and on multiple celebrities. My initial feelings about the jumpsuit were lukewarm, some stars have managed to pull the look off quite nicely (kudos goes to Blake Lively!) while others have failed miserably. I still ended up buying my own suit (also referred to as a romper) back in February and thought it would be adorable paired with heart shaped sunglasses and a bicycle! What do you think? Should us 'real people' dare to donne the jumpsuit on the streets or should the look be left in the pages of VOGUE? Share your thoughts!

[Side Note:] As you have all probably heard by now (if you do not live in a hole) today marked the date of a very tragic event as Michael Jackson has just passed due to cariac arrest. While there are many things that can be said about the incredibly talented musician that he was I will leave it at this: R.I.P. MJ, you will not be forgotten.

Duh Duh Duh...

As you all know by now, I got my hair cut a few days ago and have been somewhat shy about sharing the photos as I'm still unsure about how it looks. This image was snapped right after the salon. While it's probably more high fashion, I personally think it could use a bit more body!

This is what it looks like when put up in a ponytail...I think I prefer it this way.

This snapshot was taken today. This is my au naturel texture and likely how I'll end up wearing my new do on a daily basis. My current attitude is this: I am not in love, but it's a change and I have the whole summer to grow it out! What do you guys think? Do you prefer it straight or au naturel?

Style Jury: Mary Kate Olsen

Before I delve into today's post I must start off with some very good news: the camera has been recovered! How could I have forgotten to check...the glove compartment of my car? Anyway, I promise that I will post photos of my new self tomorrow (just in case you readers are starting to forget what this blogger looks like!)

So the other day I was reading one of my mom's gossip magazines (guilty pleasure), and I stumbled across this photo of Mary Kate Olsen being criticized due to her 'gregarious' ensemble. Mary Kate has always been a toughie for me in regards to her 'style icon' status, although lately (especially after browsing through her and Ashley's two clothing lines) I have started to admire her more and more. While I may have made a couple tweaks to the look, I personally do not see anything wrong with the outfit. I also like the fact that she mixed high with low end (the dress is Topshop!) What do you guys think? Is this look a 'yay' or a 'nay'?

P.S. Saw 'The Proposal' today...cheesy but good!

Camera Crisis!

Oh my. Today I got my hair cut and, ecstatic to show my deprived readers, I got ready to take a picture...only to realise that I can't find my camera anywhere! I am not a person who loses things frequently and the whole situation has gotten me in a bit of a tizzy.
Thankfully my parents never read my blog as if they do they would be going crazy right now! Hopefully I will solve this dilemna soon. If you don't hear from me for a couple days it is very likely that I have conducted a personal search party within my household. If I don't post later on today have lovely weekends. Sincerely,

Freaked Out
P.S. I have included an image of the inspiration for my hair this time around. I also think that her outfit is rocking!

An Affair With My Hair

Behold dear readers, the pixie cut. Only to be worn by the most daring, chiseled, and genetically blessed of our population. It is my personal view that every girl secretly wishes to don this daring trim (however it is also a view of mine that sequins can and should be worn to high school). Unfortunately the sad truth is that this cut is quite difficult to pull off, and often requires the "heroin chic" frame of a waif to avoid looking out of proportion or -fear of all fears- masculine!

With my hair I look for two things: easy maintenance, and a method to escape my boredom. While I hate styling my hair I love trying out new looks. I have avoided colouring for the past couple years as I have learned the hard way that your natural usually suits you best, however as spring turns to summer and my ends turn unseasonably weathered I am feeling that the time has come to try something new. If the key to pulling off any look is killer confidence, could I be a pixie girl? Does the fact that I will be going off to school in the fall have any affect on this decision? (Note to readers: my hair grows at a moderate rate.) Please give your two cents, I'm simply dying to know! Also, if you have an idea for a different cut that would suit me feel free to mention it!

Yours truly,

Nikki

Queen Bee

Yesterday, as I was reading one of my favourite fashionable publications of all time, also known as Vogue, I came across a striking black and white image of a ravishing woman. I read on (as I cannot skip an article, even if it is about...science!...) and found that what I perceived to be a beautiful and self-assured woman is just that (and more!) The woman in question is Queen Rania of Jordan, an individual whom I had never heard of in the past because - let's face it - Jordan is relatively obscure. What I found so compelling about the Queen in question was that as opposed to sitting back and relaxing in her highly coveted throne, she has flung herself full force into global issues and changing stereotypes worldwide. She has valuable opinions and forces the rest of the world to listen. Queen Rania is also incredibly modern, using Youtube as a method of broadcasting to the public. I was thoroughly impressed by her demure appearance, her ambition, her selflessness, and her confidence. She is the type of woman that females worldwide should aspire to be.
As this is a fashion blog I do have my two cents about her clothing choices. Frankly, I think that they are wonderful, and perfectly suitable to her age and position. There has been some controversy as she chooses not to wear a culturally traditional garb, and is not at all conservative in her dress, however as she explains it, her fashion choices are a form of expression. I think that her unapologetic boldness in fashion and in life is what this world needs!

Prom: A Great North American Tradition

This blogger has been very bad. Why? I have once again taken a hiatus from posting! Fortunately this time it was with reason as I was attending my prom, as well as all of the celebrations which followed. However silly and overhyped prom can be, it is a North American tradition therefore I have no regrets about skipping out on the posting for a couple of days! Above is my final prom ensemble (a hand beaded gown, a boyfriend blazer, big hair, and smoky eyes!) I had a lot of fun and was quite happy with the overall look. My only regret? Not photographing my makeup up close! Have faith in me readers, I will be here tomorrow :)

P.S. I won both of the awards which I was nominated for (Best Dressed and Most Likely to be on the Cover of Vogue!) Thanks to all of those who voted :)

One's Company

Personally, I am a fan of unique gifts. Things which are creative, different, interesting (that means no flowers prospective future boyfriends!) As I am attending my last sewing class tomorrow I will be forced to say farewell to my teacher whom I have become very close with over the years. As a parting gift I decided to make her a sock monkey (always a good companion!) They really are not too difficult to construct, and make an awesome gift. If you are looking to make one for yourself or another just go here: http://www.supersockmonkey.com/catalog/howtomake.html
(or if you were looking to save time you could always buy one at a craft show and claim it as your own creation...)
Anyway, until next time, Nikki signing off.

My Apologies

Dearest readers, I am sending out my sincerest appologies as I not only didn't post over the entire weekend, but I did not even mention that I would not be doing so. Hopefully this will be forgiven :)

Anyway, I suppose with that out of the way I will jump right into today's post. Above is a photo of a painting which I did recently for my World Issues class (we had to do something creative which reflected a world issue). I chose to do the environmental crisis, and the tree person which I have painted (acrylic on wood) represents the fact that we are inextricably connected with nature, and by harming and destroying nature we are in turn harming ourselves...hopefully I get a good mark!

Side note: Sorry about the photo quality, I took it briefly right before I was handing it in!
